translated materials.

I translated the item description text below from Japanese to English in order to inform my own characterization. I've archived it here for my own purposes. (Of course, I do realize that the foremost text of the game is Chinese and have intermediate Chinese proficiency to navigate that, but Japanese is my language of choice for professional translation!)

sword of descension.

PERSONAL TRANSLATION

This is proof that you came to this world in a special way.
Only one who has challenged the "world" may obtain this sword.
OFFICIAL TRANSLATION

This is a proof that you came to this world via special means.
Only one who has challenged the "world" may wield such a sword.
When this sword was last drawn, mankind was trying to save a collapsing world.
That world was the last and only place that they belonged.
This sword dared to defy their destiny to be destroyed.
—But to spurn the rule of the universe that "all living things must die"...
Well, it must have been as laughable as wielding a lance on horseback and charging at windmills...1
When this sword was last drawn, humankind was trying to preserve a doomed world.
That world was their last and only home.
This sword was drawn to defy that fate of destruction.
—But to draw steel against the law of universe that "all who exist must one day perish..."
Surely it must have seemed the height of folly.
Really, with a fate like that, facing a darkness so deep it had swallowed billions of stars,
What sort of weapon would one even choose? Of course it had to be a sword. Because, at the very least, it would be engraved with the brave memory of those who fought the world itself...
But really, when one is faced when such a final fate, when up against the star-devouring darkness,
What weapon would be fitting for one to wield? It can only be a sword. If nothing else, it shall bear the memory of those who faced their ends without fear...
Now, when you swing this sword, you search for the answers hidden in this world.
In a world like this, you can use this weapon as freely as you'd like.
Not just because the dim gaze of the universe has turned elsewhere — not just because it suits the aesthetic of this world —
But because that "hunt" is the true reason you descended from on high to begin with.2
When you wield this sword, you search for the answers hidden within this world.
In this world, such a weapon may be used without any problem.
Not for the fact that the universe casts no shadows here, and certainly not simply because it suits this world's aesthetics...
But because this search is perhaps why you descended to this realm in the first place.
Before the "past" is destroyed, before the "future" arrives,
And as the "present" fades away, trust in this blade.
It's perfect for self-defense. And for someone like you, a "challenger," a "hunter" — this is a custom-made weapon.
Take it, go forth,
When the past is dust, and the future arrives,
As the present fades away, you can trust to this blade's edge.
Having a weapon for self-defense is, of course, a good idea. After all, this one was forged for one such as yourself. Someone who challenges and pursues.
Take it, walk this earth,
And tear open all the challenges and mysteries left unsolved in this world. And cut open all the challenges and mysteries that it has to offer you.

1 This is a reference to Don Quixote. It's not exactly a common turn of phrase, but unmistakable in the literary reference. Similar to the English phrase tilting at windmills, which means "attacking imaginary enemies" but generally indicates a pointless endeavor.

2 Technically "pursuit" and "pursuer." I just felt that "hunt" was more appropriate as it refers to the search for answers.

wings of descension.

PERSONAL TRANSLATION

This is proof that you came to this world in a special way.
Only one who has soared past the sun, moon, and stars may bear the noble heraldry of these wings.
OFFICIAL TRANSLATION

This is proof that you came to this world via special means.
This is the seal of which only one who has pierced the celestial heights is worthy.
"Your journey might be rather dangerous from now on," that person once told you. "It's not as though I think that this cloth will protect you, but..." "Your journey will become very dangerous from now on," So that person told you. "I don't know if this cloth will do anything to protect you, but..."
But even so — True, on that journey far beyond the heavens, you witnessed the birth and destruction of star after star, each supernova chasing away the darkness only to be swallowed by the light once more.
And that piece of cloth would not protect you from the burning heat, or the freezing cold, or from evil curses, or wicked hearts. Still, during quiet evenings in Teyvat, the embrace of this cloth was more valuable to you than anything else.
It was indeed so- In your long journey, you have seen the birth and death of stars as they passed you by, Scattering the darkness briefly before being consumed once more.
This cloth will block neither heat nor cold, nor will it defend you from curses and ill-will. But during long nights in Teyvat, you will sometimes throw it on and find it to be most useful indeed.
"But when you face a force enough to destroy one, or even two worlds..." And you can't recall the face of that person who treated you so gently, you can't, even when you close your eyes and try — "When you face a darkness without end, or a radiance that could swallow the universe..." But that was how it was in the last world.3 "But when you face a force enough to destroy one, or even two worlds," You do not truly remember who it was who had treated the two of you ever so gently. You wish you could remember... "When you face a boundless darkness, or an all-consuming radiance..." But that was one world ago.
You no longer need to sleep out in the wild. Your bed in the city is soft and comfortable. And even if you choose to camp out in the fields, the grass beneath your fingers is soft as clouds, full of the green fragrance of life. So when that girl gave you what she called a wing glider, you had already thought of a new use for that piece of cloth... You no longer need to sleep out in the wild. Your bed in the city is fluffy and comfortable. And if you must camp, the grass is soft, filled with the fragrance of life. So from the moment you received that wind glider from that girl, you had already thought of a new use for that cloth...
Now, as once before: may you soar past the sun, the moon, and the stars. And now, you shall once again soar through the skies together with it.
